Did you know? – Chemical burn

Did you know… that for a chemical burn, you should not apply ointment or other substances? Rinsing with plenty of water is the correct first aid to prevent further damage.

For a chemical burn, do not apply ointments or creams as they can worsen the situation. Instead, it is important to rinse the burn thoroughly and immediately with plenty of water. This helps to dilute and wash away the chemical substance, preventing further damage to the skin.

When dealing with a chemical burn, first ensure that the source of the chemical is removed and that you are not exposing yourself to the chemical. Next, carefully remove any clothing or jewelry that has come into contact with the chemical to prevent further spreading. Rinse the affected skin for at least 20 minutes with lukewarm, running water to reduce the concentration of the chemical and limit the damage. Avoid rubbing the burn as this can further damage the skin. After rinsing, it is important to seek professional medical help as soon as possible, even if the wound seems small, because chemical burns can cause deeper damage that is not immediately visible.
