A first aid course is a structured educational program designed to teach individuals the essential skills and knowledge needed to provide immediate assistance and basic medical care to someone who has been injured or suddenly falls ill. The primary goal of a first aid course is to empower participants to take prompt and effective actions in emergency situations before professional medical help arrives.
During a first aid course, participants learn about:
Assessment and Response: How to assess the situation, recognize potential dangers, and prioritize actions to ensure the safety of both the victim and the first aider.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Techniques for performing CPR on adults, children, and infants, as well as the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to restore normal heart rhythm.
Wound Care: Proper cleaning, disinfection, and bandaging of wounds to prevent infection and promote healing.
Burns and Scalds: Treating burns and scalds, including cooling the affected area and applying appropriate dressings.
Fractures and Sprains: Immobilizing and providing basic care for broken bones and joint injuries.
Choking: Recognizing and responding to choking emergencies, including techniques to clear an obstructed airway.
Allergic Reactions: Administering epinephrine and providing care for severe allergic reactions.
Medical Conditions: Basic understanding of common medical conditions and how to provide initial assistance, such as seizures, heart attacks, and strokes.
Communication and Reporting: Effective communication with the victim, bystanders, and medical professionals, as well as the importance of accurate reporting.
Prevention: Educating participants about safety measures and preventive actions to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.
The First Aid Course are devided into two types, the Basic course and the Refresh course, the deffirence beingt that it’s only possible to take part of the Refresh course if you already have a valid (less then 12 months old) First Aid certificate. If you don’t then you have to take part of the First Aid Basic course.
