A First Aid Children’s course is a specialized training program designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills required to provide immediate medical assistance to infants, children, and adolescents who are injured or suddenly become ill. This type of course focuses specifically on addressing the unique medical needs and emergencies that can arise in pediatric cases.
During a First Aid Children’s course, participants learn about:
- Pediatric First Aid Techniques: Tailored approaches to assessing and managing common injuries and illnesses that affect children, such as cuts, bruises, burns, fractures, allergic reactions, and respiratory issues.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Children: Techniques for performing CPR on infants and children, including hands-on practice and use of child-specific CPR protocols.
- Choking and Airway Obstruction: Recognizing and responding to choking incidents in children, along with techniques to clear a blocked airway.
- Allergic Reactions: Administering epinephrine and providing care for severe allergic reactions in pediatric cases.
- Child-Specific Medical Conditions: Understanding and responding to medical emergencies common in children, such as seizures, febrile convulsions, and croup.
- Injury Prevention: Educating participants on safety measures and precautions to prevent accidents and injuries involving children.
- Effective Communication: Strategies for communicating with children and parents during emergencies, ensuring a calm and reassuring approach.
- Hands-On Practical Exercises: Engaging in hands-on training sessions that simulate pediatric emergencies, allowing participants to practice skills in a controlled environment.
- Use of Pediatric Equipment: Familiarizing participants with specialized equipment and tools used for pediatric first aid, including child-sized CPR manikins and AED pads.
The First Aid Children Course are devided into two types, the Basic course and the Refresh course, the difference beingt that it’s only possible to take part of the Refresh course if you already have a valid (less then 12 months old) First Aid Children certificate. If you don’t then you have to take part of the First Aid Children Basic course.
