BBMI Management Fire Alarm System

Responsible for the BMC / Fire Alarm System?

The reliability of a fire alarm system in a building heavily depends on the number of false alarms, unwanted alarms, and malfunctions it produces. These issues are often not due to the technology of the fire alarm system itself, but rather due to poor management and maintenance of the system. The standards NEN 2654-1 and NEN 2654-2 outline the requirements necessary for proper management, inspection, and maintenance of fire alarm and evacuation systems, respectively. NEN 2654 assigns the tasks and responsibilities related to this to a so-called Fire Alarm System Manager (BBMI). The BBMI is responsible for the daily management and serves as the contact person for agencies involved in the operation of the fire alarm system and the alarm organization. A BBMI contributes to the fire safety of the company or institution. Users of a fire alarm system that reports to the fire department are usually required to maintain the fire alarm system according to NEN 2654-1. This means that at least one BBMI must be present within an organization. Due to the nature of the tasks and responsibilities of a BBMI, it is recommended to include this role within the emergency response organization.
