The Nederlandse Vereniging voor Vrijwillige Euthanasie (NVVE) was founded on February 23rd, 1973, as a response to the Postma court case. From a small but active group in the Frisian village of Vinkega, the NVVE grew into a large, respected, and frequently consulted organization. The NVVE does not receive subsidies and relies on membership contributions for its income.
Currently, the NVVE has over 112,000 members. The office in Amsterdam employs 20 people, and there are 145 volunteers across the country. Due to the expansion of its objectives, the members decided to change the association’s name to NVVE, Nederlandse Vereniging voor Vrijwillige Euthanasie.
