For certain buildings, you need an environmental permit for fire safety use. Sometimes, you must notify the municipality about fire safety use (usage notification). For certain buildings (such as a daycare, café, or hotel), you need an environmental permit for fire safety use (formerly the ‘usage permit’). The municipality may impose additional fire safety requirements on a building if necessary. These requirements prevent fires, fire hazards, and accidents in case of fire.
Why Fire Safety is Necessary:
- Life-Saving:
The most important aspect of fire safety is saving lives. Fires can spread quickly and become life-threatening. A well-implemented fire safety system can save lives through early detection and effective evacuation. - Protection of Property:
Fires not only cause human suffering but can also cause significant damage to property and assets. Fire safety helps reduce the financial impact of fires by enabling quick response and fire prevention. - Business Continuity:
For businesses, maintaining operational continuity is crucial. A fire can disrupt activities and cause significant losses. Fire safety helps minimize downtime and business damage. - Legal Obligation:
In many countries, businesses are legally required to comply with fire safety regulations and standards. Failure to adhere to these rules can result in fines and legal issues.

Annual Fire Extinguisher Inspection
The inspection of fire extinguishers is conducted according to NEN 2559/2001, and for fire hose reels according to NEN 671/3, by an REOB-certified technician. This service includes all necessary seals, environmentally-friendly extinguisher seals, inspection stickers, and sealing of the hose reel valve. For inspections across multiple locations, a project-based price will be offered depending on the number of units.
Fire Hose Reel Testing
Hose reels must be tested every five years at a specified pressure (usually 12 Bar), determined by the hose reel’s manufacturing date. This testing is conducted using a hand pump.
Dry Riser Maintenance and Inspection
Dry risers must be maintained according to NEN1594:2006. This includes annual inspections and more comprehensive maintenance every five years, which involves filling the system with water and conducting a functional test at pressures of 16 or 24 Bar, depending on the age of the piping.
Annual Maintenance Tasks Include:
- Visual inspection of dry risers.
- Checking the functionality of valves.
- Inspecting the presence, condition, and status of valves, handwheels, blind caps, and connectors.
- Ensuring accessibility of the dry riser system.
- Inspecting connections and rubber seals.
- Verifying the presence and accuracy of pictograms and drainage devices.
Five-Year Maintenance Tasks Include:
- All annual maintenance tasks.
- Filling the system with water, pressurizing gradually, and performing a pressure test.

A report of findings is provided after the visual inspection and pressure test. Vuurrood is not responsible for any water damage resulting from leaks during the pressure test. We also conduct tests to ensure the dry riser is properly grounded according to NEN1010.
